External Joint Research Project Group Meeting of the PhenolAcTwin project was held on October 4^th, 2022.

Project partners from TÜBİTAK, CSIC, QIB, and INRAE and external members attended the meeting. At the Meeting, new experts and new areas for collaboration are discussed.

➤ Seminar and Open-day -1

The First Seminar of PhenolAcTwin was held on November 3, 2021, together with Open-day as an online activity. The seminar focused on “Recent Advances in Polyphenols and Health Research”.

Invited speakers were;

* Dr. Antonio González-Sarrías from CEBAS-CSIC, Spain,

* Dr. Paul Kroon from QIB, United Kingdom,

* Dr. Laurent-Emmanuel Monfoulet from INRAE, France and

* Prof. Dr. ir. John Van Camp from Ghent University, Belgium.

The open-day activity of PhenolAcTwin covered the introduction of the PhenolAcTwin Project and TUBITAK MAM Food Institute.

Advisory Board 2

The Second Advisory Board Meeting of the PhenolAcTwin project was held on November 21, 2022. Project Coordinator Dr. Ebru Pelvan Pelitli gave a presentation including WPs and Tasks that were achieved and that were not finished in the 1^st and 2^nd years of the project. She also gave a presentation including WPs and Tasks that are planned for the 3^rd Year of the project.

 Advisory Board 1

First Advisory Board Meeting of the PhenolAcTwin project was held on January 28, 2021. Project partners from TÜBİTAK, CSIC, QIB, and INRAE and Advisory Board members were attended to the meeting. At the meeting, project activities and targets were planned for the first year of the project.

 Kick- off Meeting



The Kick- off Meeting of the PhenolAcTwin project was held on December 3, 2020. Project partners from TÜBİTAK, CSIC, QIB, and INRAE and Project Officer from the AB Research Executive Agency (REA) Office were attended to the meeting. At the meeting project activities and targets were planned for the first year of the project.

 ➤ Expert Visit -3

Expert Visit - 3 task was held on 6-7 November 2023 in TÜBİTAK MAM Life Sciences focusing on the scientific topics below;

 * Fundamental techniques and protocols for cell culture,

 * Cytotoxicity assays for evaluation of biological effects of phytochemicals,

 * Anti-inflammatory mechanism of action of polyphenols,

 * Basic principles of mass spectrometry-based sample analysis,

 * Polyphenol metabolism in humans.

 ➤ Expert Visit -2

Expert Visit - 2 task was held on 6 October 2022 in TÜBİTAK MAM Life Sciences focusing on the scientific topics below;



 * Exosomes as nanocarriers to enhance the tissue bioavailability and anticancer activity of curcumin and resveratrol,

Fourth Success Story Meeting of PhenolAcTwin was held on September 30, 2021. The coordinator of BACCHUS Project Dr. Paul Kroon from QIB shared the success story of the project with us. 

 ➤ Success Story of POSITIVe

Third Success Story Meeting of PhenolAcTwin was held on September 24, 2021. The coordinator of COST POSITIVe Project Dr. Christine Morand from INRAE shared the success story of the project with us. 

 ➤ Success Story of Polybiota

Second Success Story Meeting of PhenolAcTwin was held on September 9, 2021. The coordinator of Polybiota Project Dr. Juan Antonio Giménez Bastida from CEBAS-CSIC shared the success story of the project with us. 

 ➤ Success Story of SolarTwins

First Success Story Meeting of PhenolAcTwin was held on August 25, 2021. The coordinator of SolarTwins Project Professor Derek Baker from METU shared the success story of project with us. 



∙ 1 researcher from TUBITAK visited INRAE for 2 months (July and October 2022) with the research topic “Determination of the cytotoxicity of fermented plant products and investigation of their anti-inflammatory effects in cell culture”.

∙ 2 researchers from TUBITAK visited QIB for 1 month (October 2022) with the research topic "Use of cultured cell models to assess the uptake, trans-cellular transport, and metabolism of polyphenols”.

∙ 2 researchers from TUBITAK visited CSIC for 1 month (June 2023) with the research topic “Biological activity evaluation of polyphenols and bioavailable polyphenol-derived metabolites (in vitro and in vivo studies) ”.

 CSIC organized the training on September 21 and October 11, 2021, focusing on



• Fundamental techniques and protocols for cell culture
• Cytotoxicity Assays
• Practical Flow Cytometry to evaluate cell cycle arrest and apoptosis induction
• Protein Expression Analysis

QIB organized the training on October 18-19, 2021 focusing on

• Basic principles mass spectrometry-based sample analysis (Part 1)
• Basic principles mass spectrometry-based sample analysis (Part 2) and Targeted analysis of polyphenols: method validation and workflow development
• Non-targeted analysis of polyphenols: compound identification/ validation and data analytics
• Quantification of polyphenols: microbial and host-derived metabolites
• In vitro colonic, fermentation model: background and fundamentals
• Targeted quantification/identification of trimethylamine, short-chain fatty acids, and related metabolites

INRAE organized the training on November 4-5, 2021 focusing on

• In vitro models to evaluate the impact of PPs on endothelial function
• How to assess the effect of PPs on gene expression
• The online PhytoHub database and ongoing progress
• Introduction to clinical trials in nutritional studies

  Summer Schools

 Four summer schools will be organized by PhenolAcTwin

 ➤ Summer School-4

Summer School-4 on “Identification of dietary polyphenols in foods and their bioavailability” was held on 9-10 November 2023 in Gebze, Türkiye.

 ➤ Summer School-3

The Summer School - 3 of PhenolAcTwin organized by INRAE in Paris, France was held on 12-15 September 2022. The Summer School was focused on “Innovative approaches and tools to substantiate the link between dietary polyphenols and Health - From clinical to mechanistic research”.

 ➤ Summer School-2

The Summer School-2 of PhenolAcTwin organized by CEBAS-CSIC in Murcia, Spain was held on 13-15 June 2022. The Summer School was focused on “Approaches for the assessment of the bioavailability and gut microbiota metabolism of polyphenols”.

 Conferences

 14^th International Conference and Exhibition on Nutraceuticals and Functional Foods

 Within PhenolAcTwin Project, 14^th International Conference and Exhibition on Nutraceuticals and Functional Foods was held on October 2-5^th, 2022 at Crowne Plaza İstanbul-Asia Hotel & Convention Center in İstanbul, Turkey.

The conference includes the participation of delegates from 28 countries with 217 presentations (134 orals and 83 posters) and total participants of around 350 people.
